Large Australian fish like bream and snapper have declined by a third according to new research that has been called a “wake up call” for Australia.

Over-fishing has been blamed for plummeting fish stocks, however climate change has also been found to be a factor.

Marine scientist Trevor Ward says,“effective marine management is needed now, more critically than ever … [and] despite public desire for marine protected areas … [they] cover less than 2 percent of global marine waters.”
