Former senator of the ACT, Katy Gallagher, will be making an attempt to get her seat back at the next election, despite her replacement planning to oppose the move.

Ms Gallagher was forced to leave the senate last month after a High Court investigation concerning her dual Australia/UK citizenship.

She was replaced by David Smith, who was previously the ACT director of Professionals Australia and also a former running mate.

Despite the opposition, senior Labor figures are already throwing their support behind Ms Gallagher.
