A bipartisan deal being pushed to amend legislation to stop foreign interference in Australian politics and media is striking protest from charities.

The deal looks to limit the effects of foreign influence, potentially forcing international charities to register as foreign agents.

Oxfam Australia is heavily involved in working with foreign governments to distribute aid and fears that they will be categorised as a foreign agent, hurting their reputation overseas.

Politicians will be returning to Canberra to discuss the legislation over the next eight sitting days before break.
