Libyan coastguards have recovered the bodies of five migrants and 191 survivors off the coast of capital Tripoli.

The discovery follows 76 migrants who were intercepted west of Tripoli on Sunday, as well as a humanitarian organisation ship being turned away by Italy’s new government decision to close its ports.

More than 7,000 migrants have been returned to Libya so far this year, with more than 80% less migrants making the cross from Libya to Italy this year compared to 2017 statistics.
