A six year old child has fired a loaded handgun found in the couch of an IKEA store in Indiana.

The gun had been misplaced and wedged between the cushions after its owner sat down on the couch.

Sergeant Tom Weger from the Fisher’s Police Department says upon the firing of the gun, “the gun owner quickly identified himself … and fully cooperated with the investigation”.

No arrests were made, but the Hamilton County prosecutor's office will decide if criminal charges are warranted.
