The president of South Sudan and his former vice president signed a peace deal Wednesday in a bid to end their country's protracted civil war.

The agreement, made in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, aims to end a war that has claimed the lives of thousands of people.

The deal included a ceasefire to start in 72 hours, Sudan's foreign minister said, but rebels rejected other parts of the deal.

Sudanese Foreign Minister, al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, says "The parties will continue talks in Khartoum to discuss the issue of power-sharing after the ceasefire."
