Cameras have been called to be installed on Queensland roads to catch drivers using their mobile phones.

The New South Wales Government introduced cameras to detect drivers illegally using their mobile phones from July 1, which prompted Bicycle Queensland chief-executive, Anne Savage, to call on Queensland to do the same.

Currently, drivers can be fined up to $378 and lose three demerit points if a mobile phone is in their hand while driving, including while stopped at traffic lights.
