Australia will continue to oppose renewed efforts by Japan to conduct ‘scientific’ whaling.
Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg said the global ban on whaling should continue and that Australia will oppose any proposals to weaken or overthrow the current restrictions.
Previously the government has supported an International Court of Justice’s 2014 finding that suggested Japan’s Southern whaling program was not for the purpose of scientific research.
