26 year-old Angela Ponce will be the first transgender model to compete in the international Miss Universe pageant, since the pageant allowed transgender women to compete in 2012.
Ms Ponce said that she thinks her participation in the competition is going to create - regardless of the final - a new era of history in not only Miss Universe and beauty contests but in many countries' views of transgender women.
Ms Ponce beat-out 20 other contestants to become Miss Universe Spain in her home country.
The date and location of this years international competition is yet to be announced.
