An Australian scientist has helped a team of international researchers piece together a picture of the last meal of the icy mummy Otzi, which is over 5,300 years old.

Otzi’s final meal was high in fat, with his stomach contents showing traces of deer, and goat alongside a type of fern that could’ve potentially wrapped the meat or been used as a traditional medicine to ease stomach pain.

Dr Philip Doyle, a professor of analytical chemistry of University of Technology Sydney, was one of the scientists who helped conduct the investigation and said it was a rare glimpse into the daily diet of people who were transitioning from hunter-gatherers to farmers.
