The Uniting Church of Australia is allowing individual ministers the right to decide whether to conduct same-sex marriage ceremonies.
The church’s national assembly approved of two separate definitions of marriage, which it said will be equal yet distinct.
Uniting church president Diedre Palmer said she hopes the decision would encourage more diversity among the church’s congregation.
