Early risers across Australia are set for a celestial showcase of what scientists have predicted as the longest long moon eclipse of the century.
Starting from 4am on Australia's east coast and from 2am in the west, the moon will gradually become darker and grow progressively red over the next hour and a half.
East coast viewers will see the blood moon at its fullest at about 5:30am, with the Earth, moon and sun in perfect alignment.
