Independent member for Sydney, Alex Greenwich, asked Premier Gladys Berejiklian yesterday to declare a state of emergency around homelessness.
Greenwich says the last time a state of emergency was called was during the Blue Mountains bushfires in 2013.
Approximately 40,000 people in New South Wales are currently homeless, which is a statistic that shows an increase by 37 percent since 2011.
