- Melbourne four-piece, self-proclaimed rosé rock n rollers Porpoise Spit have released their new EP titled God Yeah! According to the band, the EP is a “nod to riding out the hard times with your chosen family, queerness and heartbreak”. The five tracks are a dose of high energy that will continue ringing throughout your body long after you have listened to it.

Described as “suburban Aussie dream punk” on their Facebook page, Porpoise Spit have combined alternative rock with spoken word and strong vocals to share a storytelling sensation of quintessential Australian lifestyle. You cannot get more Australian than the song Karl Stefanovic At The Logies Drunk. The “tribute” begins with an immediately growing tension, amplified as the bass intoxicates the song’s trembling vibrations. The band is telling us the party life Karl Stefanovic craves. It soon becomes an aggressive obsession and the drone of the chorus breaks out: “I wanna get Karl Stefanovic at the Logies Drunk!” This is serious head banging, jump-until-your-knees-break kind of material.

My favourite song here, 2SC4THASPRMRKT (too sexy for the supermarket) brings it down a notch, offering a bit of an indie-rock vibe. The incredible lyricism has a great feminist message rolled into a humorous, yet vivid narrative. Like Taylor Swift’s “I can’t come to the phone right now” telephone recording, Porpoise Spit have inserted a supermarket intercom sample that seriously puts the cherry on top of the cake. The guitar solo that follows is rip-roaring and spine-tingling, expelling an electrifying energy to all listeners. Porpoise Spit have got an edge to them: they’re rambunctious and gaudy but God Yeah, it’s good!
