Private Prison Operator Serco has received access to a state run jail in order to promote a new privately run womens prison to Queensland inmates according to prisoner advocacy group ‘Sisters Inside’

This comes amid reports that Queensland is struggling to manage its prison population as men’s prisons are currently running 135 per cent over capacity and womens prisons running 165 over capacity.

Debbie Kilroy from ‘Sisters Inside’ is calling on Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to stop the transfers following concerns on Serco’s past reports of physical and sexual abuse in other Serco run prisons.

She is also concerned about a lack of accountability for the company as the prison is not open or accountable to taxpayers as well as an inability to review the contract signed between the government and Serco
