In Victoria, there are calls to increase security and resources at a major hospital in Victoria’s east after a spate of attacks on hospital staff occurred in the mental health unit.

The Health and Community Services Union said Latrobe Regional Hospital was one of the worst performing hospitals for acute mental health services, and that it was in a "major crisis".

The union said it was gravely concerned about staff security and proper resourcing of the mental health unit was one of the reasons staff were at risk.

Union organiser John Creamer said they are constantly pushing for more staff.
