The Hungarian Government has denied food to rejected refugees stuck in transit zones on the serbian border as per their legal obligations.
The Human Rights Watch has urged the Hungarians to adhere to their own laws and ensure all refugees in their custody are provided with sufficient and adequate food in its report.
Whilst the Hungarian Government argues that there is no law binding them to this obligation, the Human Rights Watch states the authorities are bound by multiple human rights treaties that prohibit such inhumane treatment.
Furthermore, the Human Rights Watch in its report has called for amendments to the country's legislation to ensure people in transit zones have their basic needs met, regardless of their application status.
