A Tamil family from Queensland have spent months in immigration detention after their visas were not renewed.

The family had arrived separately in 2012 and 2013, after fleeing from Sri Lanka’s Civil War. On Monday, an appeal in the Federal Court will determine whether they will be able to return to their Queensland home.

Lawyers plan to argue that the Immigration Authority did not follow due process by recording all interviews in full, to representatives of former Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.
