Labor government plans to take back Great Barrier Reef Foundation funding

The Labor Government has written to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, warning them not to spend too much of its grant money as they believe a change of Federal Government will come soon.

The Coalition handed the Foundation nearly half a billion dollars in June without any competitive tender process and without the Foundation actually asking for it.

Shadow environment minister Tony Burke has found a way to claw most of the money back, under a clause in the funding agreement which allows for it to be terminated immediately if there is a material change in Australian Government policy.
