32 people have been killed and at least 130 injured after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-filled vest during a protest against a local police commander in Eastern Afghanistan yesterday.

The Nangarhar province police chief said it is unclear whether the attacker knew of the nature of the protest.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but both Taliban insurgents and the Islamic State group are active in eastern Afghanistan, especially in Nangarhar province.
