Cameras made by two Chinese companies facing accusations of spying on behalf of the Chinese Government are being used across Australia.

Cameras from Hikvision and Dahua have been used to identify political dissidents and ethnic minorities in China, and were banned from use in the US last month.

These cameras are being used in several sensitive locations in Australia, including a military base and the entrance of a Canberra office complex housing the government’s top lawyers as well as national security and intelligence agency departments.

They are also being used in many public spaces across Australia, including street corners, buses, shopping centres, schools, universities and local council offices.
