The Vatican have confirmed the Pope will meet with US Catholic Church leaders following allegations he knew about the misconduct of an American ex-cardinal for years and didn’t act on it.

The allegations were made last month by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano concerning the sexual misconduct of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and have triggered calls for the Pope to step down.

The allegations mark an unprecedented denouncement by a Church insider against the Pope and other Catholic Church officials both in the Vatican and the US.
