Former Ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma has won Liberal preselection for the Wentworth by-election on 20 October this year following the resignation of former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
The six hour voting session came down to two male candidates despite suggestions from Prime Minister Scott Morrison as well as high profile women MPs that higher female representation in the party should be prioritised.
Analysts are predicting this will be a close result as historically, the seat has been held by high profile Liberals and retained on personal popularity over party preference.
