A category two cyclone has made land in the US state of North Carolina, with as much as one metre of rain expected.
Hurricane Florence is expected to move inland through Saturday as more than one million people evacuate the coasts.
The predicted path of the storm, which was blowing at 165 kilometers per hour on Thursday night, will see it pass over ten million US residents.
