New state legislation di has been passed allowing thousands of Queensland survivors of child sex abuse with counseling, compensation and a personal response.

Child Safety Minister Di Farmer said the Queensland Government was committed to ensuring that victims of institutional child sex abuse in Queensland were acknowledged and had access to the redress they deserved as there are an expected 10000 victims seeking redress with half being from government institutions.

Ms Farmer’s thoughts coincide with Health Communities, Disabilities Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee chair Aaron Harper said if the scheme has not been established, many victims would continue to suffer in silence.
