Following a segment on Indigenous adoption earlier this year on sunrise, a group of aboriginal elders have launched a complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission.
The complaint in question is in response to a inaccuracy made by presenter Samantha Armytage claiming indigenous children could only be adopted by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander families which lead to a panelist suggesting the need for a second ‘stolen generation’ for the children’s wellbeing.
The current complaint was made on the ground of race discrimination, stating that the discussion on Sunrise was incredibly hurtful, with elder Aunty Debra Swan stating that the people on the segment didn't know what they were talking about and their comments were quite racist in nature.
