Dietitians are concerned that vegan diets are being used to cover up eating disorders as they give people struggling with obsessive eating a reason to skip or cut out food from their diets.

Centre of Integrative Health dietitian Kate Late stated that while eating disorders can never be the sole factor, it was common to see those with disorders following vegan diets.

She went on to state that eating disorders are founded on rules and restrictions, and therefore people suffering from disorders are drawn to vegan diets as they offer hardline rules and justify their diet restrictions.
