Organisations such as Sea Shepherd Australia and Human Society International have questioned the recent killings of 4 tiger sharks in response to the 2 reported attacks on a Tasmanian and Melbourne woman.

Whilst the Queensland Government has said the killings were for public safety, environmentalists have said that these kills are providing swimmers with a false sense of security.

Both Human Society International marine campaigner Lawrence Chlebeck and Sea Shepherds Jonathan Clark suggested other methods to implement, such as public education and alert systems. According to Mr Clark these play a larger role in preventing attacks with Mr Chlebeck stating that outdated methods such as shark Drumlines are losing public support
