Almost 3 weeks ago, forensic testing begun after an orange purchased in a Brisbane fruit and veg store turned purple hours after being cut open.

Scientists found today the fruit turned purple from naturally occuring anthocyanins (an tho sigh ah nins) in the orange reacting with iron particles found in the recently sharpened knife which was used it cut it.

Queensland Health's Forensic and Scientific Services say the orange’s colour change didn’t present any risk to human health.
