Prime Minister Scott Morrison is insisting there’s no room in the budget for Newstart payments to be raised, despite better-than-expected budget figures.
While the Logan City Council has been writing to Federal MPs to raise payments, Mr Morrison told ABC radio it would be too expensive to increase payments.
The Newstart allowance has been stagnant for 25 years, and described by critics as unnecessarily cruel.
