Recently, 380 transgender women participated in an Australian study on the genetic basis behind gender dysphoria.

 

Researchers compared the DNA of transgender women to cis gender men and found four significant differences.

 

Four genes involved in processing sex hormones were much greater in number in the transgender women, suggesting that there’s a genetic component in who is and isn’t transgender.
