An engineering consultant who deemed Dreamworld’s Thunder River Rapids Ride as mechanically and structurally sound, days before the fatal 2016 accident, has said he didn’t place ‘a great deal of importance’ on Workplace Health and Safety.

At the coronial inquest on Wednesday, Thomas Polley said he conducted only a mechanical and structural assessment of the ride, as he was not qualified to conduct an electrical assessment. Also, that he logged the ride as having ‘no fault’ on a certificate despite there being no documentation for daily or annual inspections.

Dreamworld’s lawyers have questioned his assertion as ‘silly’.
