Labor says there are deep problems with a bill that would see resettled refugees on Nauru banned from ever entering Australia.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said last week he was willing to accept New Zealand's offer to resettle asylum seekers and their families from the Nauru detention centre.

Labor frontbencher Tony Burke said Labor was sceptical about the bill, which has been stuck in parliament for almost two years, and needed more information before it went any further. Mr Burke also says he wants to know if Morrison is serious about getting asylum seekers out of detention on Nauru.
