Taxpayers have forked out more than $1 million for over 220 Commonwealth Games athletes and coaches who remained in Australia after overstaying their visas.
The athletes, most of them from African nations, went missing during and after the Games in April.
So far, the money has been spent to house and feed the competitors, with legal bills to try and remove them expected to skyrocket.
