More than 200 QLD council delegates have rejected a request to change the date of upcoming council elections so that voters don’t have to go to the polls twice in the same year.

The issue was triggered by the government shifting to four year election terms in 2017.

There will be no change to the 2020 elections, however things may be different in 2024 and beyond.

From 2020, Queensland residents will vote in their council election in March and then in the state election in October.
