- While You Where Sleeping, a Brisbane label run by Matt Cook (previously he was known as White Palms but now embraces the moniker MD Cook) are about to drop the second album from Lakeshore. Simply titled, LP2, this time it is Cook, solo at the helm. The local electronic producer has been on the scene for years, playing bass for The Rational Academy and contributing to ASSEMBLY. Staying ever true to his mission statement, he’s served up an album of jittery, experimental electronics with a heavy dash of footwork.

Third Time is a shuffly, up-tempo track with a throbbing kick and crunchy samples. The core sample is matched to some fast drum programming. It certainly has bounce, with its stilted drums and ripping sample tearing at your speakers. Again the drums shuffle in Horizons, built around a central, chopped up piano sample. Make It Last starts with some buzzed out synth before the kicks roll in. It's all about footwork and fast tempos! The loop is rinsed and matched to percussion that develops as the song progresses.

I Heard is a bombastic footwork track with some great pitched vocal snippets. High Winds has bounce, a beautiful atmospheric pad matched to some driving 808-drum machine. Sunshine sounds like what a bugged out Roy Ayers robot would do. 008080 is a favourite. It has some really interesting production values, starting off in breaks/footwork territory before being flipped completely and slowing down significantly.

Lakeshore has definitely differentiated itself with LP2, developing in terms of production and style. The more abstract use of samples and ethereal atmospheres has given way to driving footwork, electro and techno. For anyone hankering for bass look no further – indulge like a sailor on shore leave and cop some Lakeshore!
