You may or may not have heard about the LGBTQ Brisbane web series Two Weeks before, but I can assure you it’s a real treat. Let me take you through the reasons, five to be exact, on why you should give it a watch.

  1. The series is set in BRISBANE. This not only allows local audiences the experience of recognising hotspots in inner-city Brisbane but the chance to support emerging filmmakers and talent from this very same city. The stunning cinematography captures the beauty and moments of these places, which leads me to point number two.

  1. The CINEMATOGRAPHY. It captures every moment between these characters beautifully. Not only do we see an intimate and authentic representation of LGBTQ characters on screen but we get to witness this through beautifully handled visuals. Vision is everything, and cinematographer Ben Cotgrove is spot on here. Every aspect of Brisbane looks and feels exciting while watching Two Weeks and we are ultimately encouraged to see it in a new light, quite literally.

  1. The WRITING. The characters that feature in the series are in the good hands of writers Mary Duong (Creator), Daniel Anderson and Ben Cotgrove. There is a mix of storylines, each with the ability to connect to different groups of people, that are effortlessly interwoven throughout the series. We shift between different perspectives and see the magic of the web series format, where everything is ultimately connected in one way or another. The episodic content has a strong writing aspect which encourages the viewer to binge watch, which I have a feeling most of us will end up doing (even the re-watchers). The dialogue is natural and relatable and the viewer is allowed the space to observe these characters and examine who they really are.

  1. The series has had a good response to the FESTIVAL CIRCUIT. It has been gaining traction both nationally and internationally and it isn’t hard to see why (refer to reasons above). This series had its season premiere at Brisbane Queer Film Festival in 2018 and has won numerous awards at festivals including Best Student Series at Melbourne WebFest 2017, Best Web Series at Long Beach International Indie 2017, and the Industry Panel Award at the UK WebFest 2017. It’s also featured in Out Web Fest, Rio WebFest, Stareable Fest and Hollyweb Festival, and was nominated for Best of Australian Spotlight at Melbourne Web Fest 2018. Need I say more? The content is ready and waiting to connect and find it’s online audience, and will enable a community to form, which leads me to the next point.

  1. It’s literally MADE FOR YOU. Yes, you. No matter who you are in this world, you will be able to relate to it. Themes on love, heartbreak, friendship, jealousy and anger are all aspects we deal with in our lives, and this series gives us a chance to explore those sides to us via the characters on screen. LGBTQ folk - this one’s for you. Each of these characters are complex and captivating and even if you don’t identify as LGBTQ, that won’t stop you from enjoying this beautiful web series with an absolute heart of gold.
