Vanuatu's Foreign Minister has warned it is considering suing fossil fuel companies in response to the effects of climate change.

He says that his government is exploring all avenues to utilise the judicial system in various jurisdictions, including under international law, to shift the costs of climate protection back onto the fossil fuel companies, and governments that actively and knowingly created the threats.

Vanuatu is home to over 260,000 residents and many of its islands sit less than a metre above sea level, so it is particularly prone to the risks of climate change.
