A landmark report into stillbirth in Australia has revealed the rate has not changed in more than 20 years, and is twice as high among Aboriginal mothers.

There were emotional scenes in Parliament last night as Labor senator Malarndirri McCarthy tabled the report, which found stillbirth affects more than 2000 Australian families each year.

Federal health minister Greg Hunt announced a national roundtable to address the rate of stillbirth in Australia in response to the report, as well as $7.2 million for medical research and education programs.
