El Paso is set to become one of the first cities in the US to use treated sewage water as drinking water, with the city working on building a facility to treat sewage.

The idea of treated sewage water is not new; however, many water-scarce cities have resisted its implementation due to public revulsion at the idea. Despite negative public attitudes, several cities have been re-examining the idea as water is increasingly becoming a scarce resource.
