The Queensland Government has decided to close two agricultural colleges within the state which has been viewed by many as disappointing.

Following a review by the former Vice-Chancellor of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the Longreach Pastoral College and the Emerald Agriculture College were seen as financially impractical.

Locals have condemned this decision saying that Queenslanders falling behind in agriculture education when compared to NSW and WA; with a former agriculture student saying: “we're in one of the worst droughts this century, there is a reason there aren't enough students because the jobs aren't here at the moment so its very short-sighted to close it".
