Crocodile farmers in Queensland can now legally hunt and gather crocodile eggs in the wild, and hatch them for luxury goods.

State government introduced changes to conservation laws without public notification which permits hunters to hatch wild eggs for their skin and meat.

State Government says egg hunters will have to apply for a licence, follow strict guidelines and monitor local croc numbers.

The licence has been beneficial to farmers like John Lever, who has been forced to travel to the Northern Territory to collect his eggs.
