A new waste dump and waste-to-energy incinerator to be placed in Swanbank is being assessed by the Queensland Government in spite of close to 1000 complaints from Ipswich locals over the past six months.

More than 91 per cent of complaints relate to odours, with 80 per cent of the smells coming from the city’s waste dumps that continue to receive waste from New South Wales.

Environment Department staff have made 52 unplanned inspections of businesses within Swanbank Industrial Park over the past 6 months, with 12 businesses either fined, or having had their permits suspended or cancelled.
