A drug and alcohol treatment centre which is the first of its kind has opened to families in south-east Queensland where parents can receive support for their drug addiction while not being separated from their children.

The residential rehabilitation project has five family recovery unites at a location south of Brisbane, which can accommodate children under 10 years old in two and three bedroom apartments.

Last year in Queensland, one in three children in the Child Safety Department's care had a parent who had used meth amphetamines, with ice the most common drug of choice.
