Consumer group Choice’s latest quarterly Australian household survey found that private health insurance costs are now the biggest household spending worry as costs now exceed electricity bills.

The survey exposed that 77 per cent of of Australian households are concerned about electricity bills while 82 per cent are concerned about health insurance costs.

Australians could soon be paying even more for the same cover of private health insurance as the industry prepares to undergo its biggest change for decades from April 1.

The Health Program director at the Grattan Institute says the change is “to make it easier for consumers to choose between the various packages [because] at the moment there are so many packages on offer and they have so many definitions that it’s impossible [to choose].
