The Labour Party promises to finally put an end to the Medicare rebate freeze implemented in 2013.

The freeze was intended to be a temporary measure, however, the Liberal-National coalition extended it in 2014 to four years and again for another two years in 2016.

In the 2017 budget the government laid out a plan to gradually dissolve the measure.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said "the future of Medicare was at the top of my plan in the last election, and this election will be no different."
