Two successful electric scooter companies will be able to put 500 scooters each onto the streets after a tender which begins this week.

They will do so on a permit approved by the city council, charging the companies $570 per scooter per year, plus a $5000 flat fee.

Local opposition leader Peter Cumming had asked how these figures, which would result in $285,000 in council revenue per company per year, were determined, with Greens councillor Jonathan Sri also questioning the rates, saying it sounded like a “great deal for the scooter companies and a very bad deal for ratepayers.”
