A tiny flying fox listed as vulnerable in NSW has been found in a rainforest on the Sunshine Coast during a four-day scientific survey.

The blossom bat was first recorded on the Sunshine Coast at Buderim in 2015, but this is the first time it has been recorded in the 55-hectare Mary Cairncross rainforest reserve.

The find was made by UQ student Anita Freudmann using a mist net, as part of a team of Australian scientists surveying the rainforest canopy, to determine what species could be found in the area, and their interactions with the ecosystem.
