Brisbane City Council’s plans to introduce more ‘green bridges’ has left Transport Minister Mark Bailey questioning why the Walter Taylor Bridge in Indooroopilly was overlooked.

The new $550 million commitment for the green bridges did not mention any plans to help the gridlocked motorists in the western suburbs, vying for access at the one-lane bridge.

Mr Bailey said, "It’s time the new lord mayor funded at least design work to start on a second bridge linking Indooroopilly with Chelmer so they could lead into detailed local community consultation and then construction of a new Taylor Two bridge.”

The new green bridges, announced on Sunday, will be at Kangaroo Point to the CBD, West End to Toowong, West End to St Lucia, at Breakfast Creek and at Belbowrie.

Incoming Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said, "These bridges wouldn't be green if they had cars on them, and it's surprising that the Minister for Transport is encouraging more people to drive.”
