The Queensland Government has named Pulse Consortia as the winning bid who will build the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail project, with tunnelling now expected to begin late next year once financial closure is secured with successful bidders.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also announced Hitachi Rail will provide a $634 million European Train Control System, while a group of entities named Unity will deliver and install the supporting rail system.

Premier Palaszczuk and Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said they are pushing ahead with the project despite criticising the Morrison Government’s federal budget for failing to set aside funds for the transport system.

The build will see the current Roma Street Transit Centre and sites on Albert Street demolished to make way for new stations, with the Palaszczuk government saying it is the first time in 100 years Brisbane will see a new station in the CBD.
